Origin of Coloring Book of the Month Club
My sister-in-law loves to color. She really loves to color. In coloring books. With crayons. She loves to color puppies and kittens, horses and woodland creatures, Disney characters, Bugs Bunny and just about everything else for which coloring books are made. You can give her the thickest coloring book and the next time you talk to her, she has colored it throughout. She goes through crayons like there’s no tomorrow.
My sister-in-law is 50 years old. She is a developmentally disabled adult who lives in a group home in her home town, about an hour and a half from where my wife and I live. She comes to stay with us for visits several times a year, and we make sure we have a good supply of coloring books and crayons on hand for when she is here. We always send her home with coloring books as well, but of course, they don’t last until the next visit.
One year, as Christmas approached, I said to my wife, “You know what we should get for your sister? A subscription to some kind of coloring book of the month club. Nothing fancy, just a service that would send her a new coloring book every month that she would know was from us.” So, I looked for one on the internet. After many failed attempts searching in my spare time, I was forced to come to the conclusion that there really didn’t seem to be one.
And so Coloring Book of the Month Club was born.
